  22. Dbank is a network-ready, tree-structured, graphical filing system for
  23. time-series and cross-sectional data that runs under Microsoft Windows. In
  24. addition to providing numerous commands for managing, editing, manipulating,
  25. viewing and plotting such data, Dbank allows you to export the data to many
  26. statistical packages and spreadsheet programs.  As such, it can be described
  27. as an operating system for time-series and cross-sectional data.

  29. To install Dbank, invoke Windows 3.1 and then type "ALT+F+R", followed by
  30. "C:\TMP\SETUP.EXE" to run Dbank's SETUP program.  Note that the last step
  31. assumes you exploded dbankwin.exe in the directory C:\TMP.  If not, replace
  32. C:\TMP with the appropriate drive::path.

  34. Dbank stores data efficiently and retrieves them quickly.  Dbank might be
  35. useful to people who keep the same data in different formats because they
  36. routinely use more than one statistical/spreadsheet package to analyze their
  37. data; and it is likely to be useful to institutions/corporations with large
  38. databases that need to be shared with many users who use different and
  39. incompatible data formats.

  41. Provided you have Windows 3.1 or higher and Windows is NOT already loaded,
  42. you can start Dbank from the DOS prompt by typing: dbank
  43.  
  44. To run Dbank successfully, you must load SHARE.EXE BEFORE you start Windows
  45. (unless you had installed programs like Word for Windows 6 or are using 
  46. Windows for Workgroups 3.11 which caused VSHARE.386 to be loaded everytime 
  47. you start Windows in enhanced mode).  If your DOS directory is in your DOS 
  48. path, you can do this by typing:

  50.         SHARE /L:500
  51.  
  52. at the DOS prompt.

  54. DBANKDOC.PS within DBANKWIN.EXE is a PostScript file containing the manual.
  55. It can be copied directly to a PostScript printer without further processing
  56. (e.g., type:  copy c:\dbank\dbankdoc.ps lpt1 /b).  Warning: the manual is
  57. 50 pages long!

  59. FLYER.PS within DBANKWIN.EXE is a PostScript file containing a one-page
  60. description of Dbank and most of its important features.  It can also be
  61. copied directly to a PostScript printer without further processing.
  62. (e.g., type:  copy c:\dbank\flyer.ps lpt1 /b).

  64. All the files in the original dbankwin.exe[.zip] directory can be erased.
